NDT Non-Destructive Testing Services
What is Non-Destructive Testing?
Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) is a unique science that determines the residues, stresses, error size and directions in the material, the relationship between the fracture strength and the design, and the safe operation of the structure. Factors affecting the fracture strength should have been taken into account during the design phase. Although the NDT is the last step of the production line, it must have been planned at the time of design.
As TOYA Quality Consultancy, we can list the services we offer to our customers as follows;
1) Ultrasonic Inspection ( UT )
In this method, ultrasonic sound beam is used to detect errors. The frequency of the sound used is between 0.2-25 MHz. Here, Hz is the unit of frequency and is equal to one vibration per second. Ultrasonic testing is based on the principle of partial or complete reflection of the sound beam propagating in the material as a result of the change in acoustic impedance (resistance of the material against the propagation of sound).
High-frequency sound is sent into the material with the help of a piezoelectric crystal, which has the ability to convert electrical energy into mechanical energy and mechanical energy into electrical energy. The detected echoes are converted into electrical signals that appear in the cathode ray tube. Thanks to today's technology, these are seen as digital signals on computer screens.
2) Inspection by Magnetic Particle Method ( MT )
This method is used to detect surface and subsurface discontinuities of ferromagnetic materials. For this, it is necessary to apply a magnetic field to the material and magnetic powder sensitive to the leakage field formed on the discontinuities. The dust becomes visible and evident by being held by the leakage area on the part surface. Interpretation of discontinuity symptoms should be done by qualified personnel.
3) Visual Inspection (VT)
It is an examination with the naked eye. It is the examination of the parameters affecting the quality such as discontinuities on the surface of a product, structural defects, surface condition, with or without the use of an optical aid (such as a magnifying glass).
Although visual inspection seems to be a very simple method, it has its own subtleties. It is usually a study that should be done before applying another non-destructive testing method. In fact, most of the application standards prepared for other non-destructive testing methods require visual inspection first and recording the findings.
4) Inspection with Liquid Penetrant Method ( PT )
This method is used to detect surface discontinuities in non-porous materials. When penetrant is applied to a clean surface, it penetrates into the surface discontinuity with a capillary effect. After a sufficient penetration time, the excess paint is cleaned from the surface. Paint, which has entered the surface discontinuity, is usually withdrawn to the surface with the help of a developer and creates a visible mark on the surface of the part.
